Topics, Scope, and Schedule For Our Seminar
This seminar is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 6. It will be focused on the three texts we are studying in the course of the seminars
In our discussion and Q & A, it is likely that we may stray into other related topics connected to Heidegger's thought, but we will try to keep the discussion focused primarily on the main topics for the seminar.
Here is the schedule for the seminar (all times are Central Daylight Time)
9:00 AM CDT - Part 1: “What Is Metaphysics?”
- We will be discussing the following topics:
- The nature of metaphysical inquiry
- Understanding the nothing and negation
- Mood or attunement and beings
- The fundamental mood of anxiety
- The nothing and nihilation
- The nothing and human freedom
- Metaphysical interpretations of the nothing
11:00 AM CDT - Part 2: “The Question Concerning Technology”
We will be discussing the following topics:
- How to ask the question
- The instrumental, means, and ends
- Examining the four causes
- Poiesis, truth, and modern technology
- Standing reserve and enframing
- Technology as threat to revealing and truth
- Is there a way forward?
1:00 PM CDT - Part 3: “The Origin Of The Work Of Art”
We will be discussing the following topics:
- The artwork and the artist
- The problem of the hermeneutic circle
- Artworks, things, and equipment
- The tension between world and earth
- Artwork, unconcealment, and truth
- Artwork, culture, and community
Students enrolled in the seminar are free to attend and participate in as many or as few sessions as they would like to while it is running. All sessions will be recorded so students can watch them as many times as they wish afterwards
